NO 41 BIS! Isolation is torture!

2pm: Discussion about Hard Jail System "41bis" in Italy and reression against italian anarchist movement.

41bis is a penitentary regime based on total isolation, sensory deprivation, in which talking is forbidden. 41bis is annihilation of the individual and dissociation and repentance are the only way out. 41bis is a form of torture regulated by the Italian state.



In 41bis regime there are today 747 prisoners in 22 sections throughout Italy. The 41bis regime lasts for 4 years, and can be continuously extended for a further two years indefinitely. 100 prisoners are in 41bis since more than 20 years.

Since the 4th of May one of the anarchist comrades – Alfredo Cospito – has also been subjected to this torture. Alfredo has been in jail for ten years now for taking part in the kneecapping of Roberto Adinolfi, CEO of Ansaldo Nucleare. The 41bis used against Alfredo – together with the sentences of essentially life imprisonment for him and two other comrades, Anna and Juan – represents yet another repressive act against the anarchist movement in Italy.

From the 20th of October our Alfredo is in hunger strike to protest against the imprisonment conditions.
